Etching is a technique that is somewhat new.
Etching technique for headstones have really been only used in the past 20 years. In the
beginning, etchings could only be done by hand. Now, headstones can also be etched by
computer laser.
This is a computerized technique where a saved image is transferred
to a robotic arm with a laser attached to it that goes back and forth
across the face of the headstone creating a very detailed etching.
Practically any clear photo or picture can be laser etched into stone.
This is where an artist actually etches into the stone by hand.
One of the questions we hear most is: "Is the etching permanent?" The answer is Yes,
the etching is permanent and will last as long as the polished surface of the granite itself.
We also offer colored etched headstones.
Once the laser or hand etch technique is completed, you have the option of having
an artist hand paint color into the etched lines. These are absolutely beautiful.
However, we must mention that the color is temporary and will last an average of 10-15 years.
Once the color has faded you will be left with the black and white etching.

Note: Because some etchings are done by hand, there could be slight differences for artistic
tolerances.
