Types of Headstones and Cemetery Monument Designs

1. Sandblast Designs

A. Flat Carved Designs
Flat carved sandblast designs are usually a 1 step sandblast process in which the designs and
lettering are sandblasted through a precut stencil that is attached to the headstone

B.
Shaped Carved Designs
Shaped carved designs are usually a 2 step process in which the headstone is sandblasted and
the blasted again for more depth and shape in the design for example roses and flowers.

C. Hand Carved Designs
Hand carved designs are just as they sound. An artisan hand carves designs such as very
deep roses, columns, shaped headstones etc.

2
.Etched Designs
A.  Laser etching is a process in which an image is scanned into a computer and that scanned
image is then transferred onto the grave marker. The laser etching just pierces the surface of
the polished face of the
Headstone and Cemetery Monument. This is why the depth of detail
can be seen on a laser etched grave marker.
It is highly recommended that dark granites especially black granite is used so the contrast
between the etching and the granite surface is maximized.

B..
Custom Etched Designs
Custom etching works on the same principal as laser etching except the etching on the
Cemetery Monument is done by an artist by hand with a diamond tipped etcher.
Artists can do custom personalized work that a laser machine can not do.

3.Lithochrome Dye
"Litho" as it is called is a dye that can be added to your Headstone or Cemetery Monument.
It can be added to the lettering to make it pop, or to enhance a sandblast design or can be
added by the artist while doing etched designs to add colors to the scene or picture.
